God heals broken washing machines

Yesterday I was reminded that everything I go through is used by God to make me more like Jesus - if I let it!

Yesterday our washing machine was leaking from underneath. So, I took it apart to prayerfully find the problem and fix it cheaply! I couldn't find the problem but managed to get water all over the floor multiple times. That was fun.

After debating about whether I should call in a professional or not, I decided to put the washer back together and test it again to see if I could see where the leak was coming from.

Hours later I was still trying to put the cabinet back together. I almost lost my faith fighting with a stupid machine. While grumbling around our laundry room and making lots of "don't come in here and bother me" noises, I was reminded that God was using this to develop patience in me.

After complaining to Him about His timing, I refocused my mind on that truth and finally asked God to help me put the washing machine back together. In the process of putting the machine back together I lost one of the clips I needed to snap the back onto the cabinet. After looking everywhere for that clip, I figured I just didn't need it.

Got the washer put back together and ran a load of laundry. Guess what! No leak! Not sure how God fixed the machine but He must have done something when I wasn't looking.

Guess what else! I found the clip I was missing. It is inside the cabinet. When our washer gets to the spin cycle, we can hear the metal clip making some wonderful noises against the metal frame it's caught on inside the cabinet.

I keep telling Tammy, "Just close the laundry room door and you won't hear the noise!"

Today I'm thanking God for healing my broken washing machine and for pouring out His grace for me!

Romans

Reading Romans this morning.

Romans 1:1 "This letter is from Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, chosen by God to be an apostle and sent out to preach His Good News."

Powerful words from Paul. Paul proudly calls himself "a slave of Christ Jesus." Strange words in a culture where slavery was a very real position. A position that was not sought out. A position no one wanted.

Yet, Paul in essence says, "I've chained myself to Jesus. I've chosen to be a slave of His! I've found the best way to live and that is in total submission to Jesus our King!"

Most days I don't find myself living as a slave for Jesus. Most days I fight for what I think are my rights, my privileges! I'm slowly learning that a position of slavery in God's family is better than a position of nobility outside of God's family.

The amazing thing is that Jesus elevates our status and says "I call you friends." Jesus, the Creator of the Universe, calls me His friend. The One who can pick up the earth by His fingers wants to know me; wants to be known by me!

I'm humbled! I'm working on making Paul's statement true for myself.

"Trent, a slave of Christ Jesus, chosen by God to preach His Good News!"

speaking with God

Do you ever wish God would speak to you? I do!

Listen to Hebrews 1:1 "Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, He has spoken to us through His Son."

God still speaks to us - everyday - through the life of Jesus!

The bible also teaches that God speaks through His Holy Spirit. I've heard it taught that God speaks through the Holy Spirit in 4 ways:

1) the Bible
2) prayer
3) other people
4) circumstances

The message that God is speaking to us every moment of every day is: become like Jesus. Take on His thoughts, actions, attitudes, suffering, patience, love, mercy, ...

Today, God wants us to use every thing we go through to become more like Jesus.

God, may I be reminded of this today. As I'm hit with things that make we want to react in my ways, let me choose Your ways! Let me choose life! Thanks for speaking loudly to humanity through Jesus!

Psalm 119:143

Encouraged by Psalm 119:143 today. "As pressure and stress bear down on me, I find joy in Your commands."

As the stress of life press against you, may you find joy and peace in the loving words of our Creator!

He tells us He'll never leave us, that He's made us more than conquerors, that we can do all things through Him, to bring our heavy burdens to Him and that He will give us rest!

May you rest in God's love for you today!

Psalm 119

Have been reading Psalm 119 this morning. Here are some highlights for me from that passage.

vs 7 "As I learn your righteous regulations, I will thank You by living as I should!"

Vs 9 "How can a young person stay pure? By obeying Your word."

Vs 11 "I have hidden Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You."

Vs 15 "I will study Your commandments and reflect on Your ways."

Vs 18 "Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in Your instructions."

Vs 27 "Help me understand the meaning of Your commandments, and I will meditate on Your wonderful deeds."

Vs 28 "Keep me from lying to myself; give me the privilege of knowing Your instructions."

Vs 36 - 37 "Give me an eagerness for Your laws rather than a love for money! Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through Your word."

Obeying God's commands is the greatest way to live! It's the best way to thank Him for all He's done for us! Obedience is better than sacrifice!

Hebrews 2 - 4

Spent time reading Hebrews chapters 1 - 4 this morning. Very challenging and encouraging chapters!

2:18 "Since (Jesus) has gone through suffering and testing, He is able to help us when we are being tested."

In those moments of suffering and testing, Jesus is there to help! He knows exactly what we are facing because He too faced suffering and testing. The question is - are we turning to Jesus for the help we need? Today, am I turning to Jesus for the help I need? Today, are you turning to Jesus for the help you need?

3 times in chapter 3 and 4 it says, "Today, when you hear His voice, don't harden your hearts."

After all that God has done and continues to do it's amazing to me that we have to be reminded not to harden our hearts towards God. Our God who loves us passionately and gave all He had so that we could be freed from the curse of sin and death. But the reality is that we must be reminded not to harden our hearts to Him.

3:12 says "You must warn each other every day, while it is still 'today', so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God."

There is a spiritual battle raging around us all the time. We are constantly under attack by the enemy. He wants to deceive us away from God. He wants us to join his rebellion against God and the armies of Heaven.

Today, as God is speaking to us, let's respond quickly to Him! Let's not ignore what He is telling us. Let's not get arrogant and think we can handle things without His strength and wisdom. Let's respond to our loving Father immediately in all He asks!

Have an epic day writing an epic story with your life!

Mr Blogger - Not

Wow, it's been like a month since I've posted anything here! Wow, apparently I'm not Mr. Blogger! As a man of few words, I generally use my words up by lunchtime and then have little left to offer. That's why we have our epic worship gatherings before lunch. After that I'm a blubbering idiot! Some of you can testify to the truth of that!

Hope you have a great day and weekend! Looking forward to seeing all of you at epic on Sunday!

Great sacrifices and great rewards

This morning I read 2 Timothy. A letter from the Apostle Paul written to his "son" in the faith Timothy.

Paul was so focused on his calling by God. In 2:10 Paul says, "I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen."

The Trent version of that verse reads, "I am willing to endure some things if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen."

God continues to teach me that the story we live in is truly His story and not mine. My role in the story is to point people to Jesus - no matter what! Paul encourages us in 3:12 "everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. But evil people and impostors will flourish."

That's encouraging (not)! The road we walk as Christ-followers is a difficult road. A road filled with persecution, spiritual warfare, struggle, temptation and battles of epic proportions. We are to expect those things - knowing that "everyone who wants to live a godly life ... WILL suffer persecution."

And I love Paul's closing comments in 4:7 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me - the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of His return. And the prize is not just for me but for ALL who eagerly look forward to His appearing."

On the epic adventure we can expect great trials and great triumphs! Great sacrifices and great rewards! And it will be worth it all - for all of eternity!

Meet the Creator

Tomorrow we introduce epic to the main character of the epic story! The only one in the story who always does what is good, right and perfect! Pray for open hearts and minds as God takes center stage!

Light of the world

I've been reading through the book of John lately and am regularly amazed at Jesus! Jesus is incredible! God wrapped in human form. The only person able to face every kind of temptation and choose life - every time! God Himself sent to earth for us!

Jesus said "I am the light of the world. If you follow Me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life." ~ John 8:12

Do you have the "light" that leads to life?

If you have the "light" are you following that "light"? How bright does that light burn within you? Is that light barely flickering or has it been set ablaze? You and I determine the intensity of the "light" within us!

humbled

I sit here Monday morning humbled at God's grace and goodness. The blessings of yesterday are many! We have an incredible team of committed servants worshiping God with every act of service! We had around 300 people show up for our first service!

Thank you to all who helped support epic's launch! Everyone from those who gave $ to those who prayed to those who gave of their time and talents, etc...

It's so humbling to see what God will do when we get out of His way! God, You are so awesome and worthy of our praise!

Tomorrow is Game Day!

We are under 24 hours till Game Day! We've done all we can do. We've worked as hard as we could work. Now it's time to watch and see what God does! I hope you are expecting great things! Come expecting to see God do more than we could ask or think!

No matter what happens tomorrow morning, give the day to God as an act of worship!

Worship Him while setting up!
Worship Him while holding babies!
Worship Him while putting out chairs!
Worship Him while welcoming epic kids!
Worship Him while greeting people before and after the worship experience!
Worship Him with all you have!

Worship is about giving to God! It's not about getting from God!
Come tomorrow and give your day / your life as an act of worship to the King! He's worthy!
See you tomorrow!

Crazy Week!

How's your week going? A bit crazy?

Our week so far has been pretty chaotic at home. Tammy's pain scale has increased significantly, we still have much to do for Sunday and Tammy just called to tell me that our son, Koty, just threw up on her.

This doesn't surprise me at all. I've been expecting this. The closer we've gotten to the launch of epic church the crazier things have gotten around us. I've personally battled strange bouts of depression and discouragement in the midst of God doing incredible things around me. Tammy and I have had more relational conflict within the past several months than normal. At times I've been on edge over insignificant things and have had conflict and miscommunication with good friends. Things at home have broken and have needed repair. It's felt crazy!

The crazier it gets, the more I'm reminded of the Larger Story we find ourselves in. I'm reminded of the enemy of God who will do everything within his power to discourage us from doing God's work. I'm reminded that he is trying to get us off task from doing what God is asking.

More than that I'm reminded of the Hero of our story! The Hero that has made us more than conquerors! The Hero that resides within us! The Hero that can do more than we can ask or think! The Hero that will always be with us! The Hero that fights for us! The Hero that makes available peace that passes all understanding when we go through difficult times.

So, if your life feels a little crazier than normal, maybe you're doing just what God wants and just what the enemy can't stand. Be encouraged and stand firm! Don't quit! Don't throw in the towel to dispair or discouragement! Stand your ground in God's truth!

"A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Therefore, put on every piece of God's armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm." ~ Ephesians 6:10 - 13

5 days

5 days till epic is officially launched! Time seems to be speeding up minute by minute!

We need to be ready for next Sunday. Here's some ways we can get ready personally:

1) Pray, pray, then pray some more! We're in a spiritual battle for the souls of people who don't yet know the love of God. The enemy of God will do anything and everything within his power to keep us from being effective. We need to be prayed up everyday for the battle!

2) Stay connected to the Vine! John 15 talks about Jesus being the Vine and us being the branches. We cannot do anything without being attached to the Vine! Spend time with God being transformed by His truth daily. Talk to God moment by moment through prayer. Memorize bible verses that remind you of how to live! Listen to music that draws you to the Creator! There are many ways to stay connected to the Vine!

3) Expect the unexpected! Things won't go always as we plan them. We must be prepared for things to go wrong. And when they do, we need to respond quickly with grace, humility and love. We need to hold everything loosely!

4) Build a "Whatever it takes" mentality. Jesus came to serve, not to be served. And He modeled a "I'll do whatever it takes" mentality. Nothing was too great or too menial for Him to do. He spoke with the religious elite and washed his disciples feet. Nothing is insignificant in kingdom work! Everything matters - and what matters most is how our hearts are transformed through serving!

Tammy update

Please be in prayer for Tammy as her pain has increased the past few days. Her pain scale has decreased to a 1 - 2 on a scale of 1 - 10 over the past month and a half - which has been extremely exciting to watch! She's been taking baby steps toward healing but there has definitely been improvement! Thanks to all of you for your prayers through the process. It appears we've finally discovered the right treatment for Tammy and it is working - slow, but working!

Her Dr wants her to get 3 more months of IV therapy and then to take a break and see what happens. We have mixed feelings about that. If Tammy is feeling better by then, that's great! But if she's still struggling, we'd rather keep going until the symptoms are completely gone. Be praying with us about that! Pray that we'll know the right thing to push for when December rolls around!

Over the past 2 days Tammy's pain scale has increased which can easily be explained by the lymes symptoms cycling around - as they continually do. It's been a while since her pain has been this elevated so pray that it is short lived! She went to bed at 6 PM tonight because of the pain. She hasn't done that in quite a while now.

She's such an amazing woman! She lives with constant pain and rarely complains about anything. I get a stomach ache and start complaining. That's usually when she takes out some frustration and smacks me on the head for being a baby! She keeps pushing through pain, limited mobility, etc... to bring honor to Jesus - in spite of her condition! She's my hero! When I grow up I want to be just like her! Thanks Tammy for being the example of maturity and endurance as a Christ follower! I love you!

2 weeks till launch

Great morning at epic getting ready for launch Sunday! Thanks to everyone who helped get us set up, practiced and torn down. It's starting to feel like the real deal now!

Be in prayer this week:
1) that God will go before us and do more than we can ask or think;
2) that we will be transformed by God's love, grace and mercy;
3) that the word about epic will continue to spread and people will come and find their role in God's epic story;

It's so exciting to see how God is bringing everyone together with their gifts and resources! God is blessing us already in some incredible ways! Thanks for serving God with all of who you are!

Have an epic week!

3 weeks till launch!

Now 3 weeks till launch day!

Lots going on! Trying to finalize things like curtains for the main room and children's areas. Need help sewing curtains together for these areas! Not hard work (unless you don't know how to sew - which includes me) just time intensive! If you can sew and are willing to help, let us know! Email Curt at Curt@mypc3.com.

Spent the day today up in Jax speaking at a church about wrestling with God (Genesis 32). Great time meeting new people and seeing how God is working around us! The future is bright for the church! Many passionate, God committed followers giving all they have to advance the kingdom!

Every Sunday we are at the Flagler County Realty Building preparing for launch day! Set-up / tear-down is underway! This next Sunday, we'll be having a practice service. Getting everything in place on time to make sure all works properly! We'll be worshipping together and getting focused on what is about to happen on Sept 20!

3 weeks will fly by! Hold on tight - the rodeo is about to begin!

The Leadership Summit

Had another great Leadership Summit on Aug 6-7 in Jax. I highly recommend this leadership conference for everyone. Next year the event will be on Aug 5 - 6 in Jax again. This is a great leadership development event for anyone who wants to get better at leading!

There are always so many take aways for me but here are a few.

  • God is more interested in simple obedience than great achievements or sacrifices.
  • Say yes to God every time the HS prompts you. You only have today to advance the kingdom of God. You may not get tomorrow.
  • Many people have a hard time finding Jesus in the long shadow of organized religion.

I was reminded again that God uses people like me! If I'll just allow God to work through me great things will happen! Too often I'm the problem for what doesn't get accomplished for God around me! Too often I'm in the way - and nothing else!

I was thrilled to have Tammy attend this year with me! This is the first year we've been able to attend these types of events together! It's so awesome to have the same language and a common experience on great events like this!

We all owe it to ourselves, God and others around us to get better at leading! We all have something to lead even if that something is us!

leadership summit

Just spent 2 days at the Leadership Summit in Jax. Great event every year! It's great to hear from top quality communicators and to be reminded of the role we play in God's epic story.

We have huge parts to play in God's story and cannot shrink back because of fear, insecurity, lack of resources, intimidation, distraction, etc...

We only get one chance in life to advance the kingdom of God in our area and in our lifetime. I want to leverage every day I'm given to advancing the kingdom. I want to become the best leader I can so that others around me can become the best leaders they can.

Every year I need to be reminded that I can make a difference in the world! So can you!

8-6-09 Tammy's update

Tammy is now in her 9th week of daily IV therapy.  It appears she is getting better - baby step by baby step!  Nothing radical but every little bit is a great improvement!  She has more mobility and can do more now than she's been able to do for 2 years.  We're thankful to God for her improvement.

Pray that our insurance continues to pay for her treatments for as long as needed.  We could be doing daily treatments for 6 months or more.  The cost is very high - about $550 a day.  Our insurance might now agree to pay these expenses at some point on the journey but so far they have paid for one month of treatments.

If they refuse to pay, we'll be left with a very large bill!

God has that all under control!  Thanks for your prayers and support!  We appreciate your encouragement along the way!

Tammy's update

This past week we were told by Tammy's Dr that her recent blood results showed positive for Lymes disease. After 2 years of medical mysteries it seems we've finally discovered the cause of Tammy's failing health. Lyme's disease fully explains all of Tammy's symptoms.

We are encouraged to finally have a name to give her condition! She's had 1 month of IV antibiotic treatments everyday. Over the past month she's had 5 days were her hip pain was less and where she didn't need her cane. She's also had worse days that she couldn't get out of bed. Many of her days have been just average pain days.

From our research, the antibiotics stir up her symptoms and she'll have good days and worse days on her way to being healed. Seems like we're on the right path even though we're cautious with hope.

Thank you for your prayers and support on this difficult journey! We appreciate everyone's support so much!

The Truth Project

Thanks to all who were able to show up and participate in our first tour of The Truth Project. Great material asking us to answer the question - What is truth?

Jesus said many profound things about truth and said that He came to earth to testify to the truth. I connected with the statement that every truth claim from God is backed up by God's nature. God is truth. God is love. God is ...

Truth is out there and can be found by us in a growing relationship with God.

Truth is reality from God's perspective. Do we live by God's perspective of the world or our own?

Next week we'll dive into tour 2 at 6:30 PM. Hope to see as many from the launch team there as possible!

Thanks as always to the growing number of people who are becoming epic and making epic church possible! You all are amazing! It's a privilege getting to know you!

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day dads! Missing my dad this father's day weekend!

My dad crossed the finish line of this life and the starting line of eternity almost 7 years ago. He was an amazing man who dedicated his life to living for God! He walked away from the potential to make lots of money and instead followed this crazy leading to be a missionary.

A passion grew in his heart to tell people about Jesus full-time. All of my life I've watched him choose God over possessions, God over money and God over everything.

Dad, thanks for the example you modeled for me! Still feel like I need you here to help guide me in how to follow God closely! I especially feel the need for your presence with the start of epic church! Sure could use your wisdom and encouragement!

God, thanks for always being with me and always guiding me in the best way to live! I cannot live without You! You will always guide me in the best way to lead epic! I'm dependent on You!

Dads, live the life before your family! Be the father, husband and man God has designed you to become! We have only one chance to lead our families and ourselves well! Live the life, run the race, leave a legacy!

Happy Father's Day dads!

14 weeks till launch!

Time seems to be speeding up as we get closer to September 2o, 2009! Last September it felt like we'd never get to this September. Now, it feels like September will be here before I'm ready!

Many exciting things happening in the epic world! Money being raised, worship leaders being sought after, teams being built, websites being developed, ...

Still much to do in our remaining 14 weeks but our God is faithful and He will help us accomplish what needs to be done! Stay connected with our Creator and all will go as He plans!

More of Him!

Another great epic launch team meeting last night! Thanks to all who are sacrificing so much to advance God's kingdom in Flagler County!

It truly is an honor to be teaming with you all!

We are approaching 14 weeks till launch! Much to do!

As we continue to move forward let's remember a few things:

1) Life is about glorifying God and not ourselves;
2) Unity is one of the most important parts of living the Christian life;
3) We are all uniquely made to fit perfectly together as the body of Christ!

Again, as John says in John 3:30 - there must be more and more of Him and less and less of me!

6-9-09 Tammy Update

Tammy started her IV treatments today for Lymes disease. Today begins her journey of doing IV therapy everyday for 6 weeks. After 4 weeks, we'll see her Dr to reevaluate her progress and decide how to proceed.

The IV treatment tired her out but no reactions so far to the meds! Praise God! Thanks for the prayers!

6-8-09 Tammy Update

Today Tammy had a picc line put in. Tomorrow she starts Lyme Disease treatment by IV antibiotics. We'll go to Halifax Medical in Daytona Beach everyday (including weekends) for 6 weeks to 6 months worth of treatments.

Tammy's Dr told us if it is Lyme Disease she should start feeling somewhat better within the first 4 weeks or so. If the treatment doesn't help her to feel better, then he thinks she probably has A.S. (ankylosing spondylitis) instead of Lymes.

We truly believe it is Lyme Disease due to her symptoms but only God knows what we are dealing with! Pray with us for God's healing regardless of what Tammy may have!

Thx for the prayers, support and encouragement!

Adventure of Life

Saw the movie "UP" today with the kids. Made me wonder if we are engaging the adventure of life or just sitting on the sidelines watching life go by!

So often life seems like one boring movie that we can't wait to be over. Could it be that the adventure we've longed for is right in front of us waiting to be engaged? Could it be that we've allowed ourselves to be deceived into believing that there is nothing greater in life to live for?

What do we have to lose if we engage life with God to the fullest, other than boredom? We have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Everyday an adventure in the story of God awaits us! Today is filled with good battling evil, danger lurking around every corner, and heroic deeds waiting to be done!

So, what are we waiting for? The invitation has already been given! Engage the story - join the epic adventure! You'll never regret it - for all of eternity!

Tammy's Medical Update 6-4-09

We met with Tammy's new Dr yesterday for the latest summary in our over 2 year medical journey. Dr. Warner believes we are down to 2 options with Tammy's poor health:

1) ankylosing spondylitis (AS) OR
2) lymes disease

AS is a condition that slowly fuses the spine / ribs together over time. No cure for this just management of symptoms / pain.

Lymes is a tick born disease that in its chronic stage can be very debilitating.

Tammy has considerable arthritis in her hips which indicates AS or lymes. We've decided to start a lymes treatment to see if she starts getting better. On Monday she goes in to get a pic line put in and then should start treatment Monday or Tuesday. Treatment will involve going to Halifax Medical Center everyday for an infusion of powerful IV antibiotics. They will watch Tammy for reaction to the meds, infection in the pic line and blood clots.

If she starts getting better within a month or so then we know it is lymes disease. If she does not get better then it points towards AS.

Thanks for your prayers on the medical journey! It's been a long road and we're ready for an end but we know God is in charge of Tammy's healing and will heal her however and whenever He sees fit! Thanks for trusting God with us for Tammy's healing!

Had another great launch team meeting tonight! Epic teams are being built (tech team, hospitality team, etc...)

It's so great working with this group of people! I love their willingness to serve! Way to go epic! Thanks for the inspiration!

Pray that God will continue to add quality people to our launch team numbers! Our goal is to have a minimum of 50 people on our launch team by September! 16 down and 34 to go!

18 weeks!

18 weeks till the launch of epic church!

Wow, these weeks keep going by faster and faster! There are moments I'm anxious and wish it was already here. And there are moments I get anxious and wish we were launching in 18 months instead of 18 weeks.

God is in control! His timing is perfect!

He keeps adding to our launch team numbers! We're currently up to 16 people and our goal is to have at least 50 people on our launch team by September 20!

Can you imagine what 50 people completely committed to Jesus could do in Flagler county? Jesus took 12 people and changed the world! I'm pretty sure Jesus + 50 committed Christ followers could begin to change one county for the King! The cool thing about that is epic gets to join the ranks of other great churches in our county who are advancing the kingdom - like Palm Coast Community Church, Life Coast, Parkview, Palm Coast Church, and others!

What do you say? Are you up for changing the county for Jesus and then who knows - the world? What do you have to lose?

crossed the finish line

I got a phone call early this morning about our precious Edith Nunnally who woke up in the arms of Jesus today. My heart is filled with those mixed emotions - grief over her loss and joy over the reality of where she is right now!

What a privilege to know this woman and her family! God, I thank you for allowing my path to cross with hers! She has been a constant inspiration to many through these past few difficult years!

Edie, I know you're enjoying that brand new body you've received! Enjoy the celebration of your home going and life well lived!

None of us knows when our own finish lines will come around the corner. So let's be ready and as Paul says in Ephesians and "live a life worthy of our calling!"

epic launch team

Had another great launch team meeting last night! With under 19 weeks till launch Sunday we're shifting gears toward dividing up in teams to accomplish the overall goal! We'll need people on all kinds of teams from programming to tech to children's ministry to hospitality to set-up and tear down .... There is lots to accomplish!

It's amazing what can happen when a group of committed people come together to accomplish a task. Each person brings a unique gift mix to the team to make the team better! I'm so encouraged by the people God is bringing to join our epic team! It will take all of us working together to join God in His epic mission of restoring the world to Himself!

We have a daunting task but a great BIG GOD! He will do far more than we can ever ask or think!
Our goal is to have at least 50 people on our launch team by September 20! Pray with us that God will continue to grow our epic team with people who will give all of who they are for all of who He is!

On May 31, we will have a pc3 / epic vision meeting for all who may be interested in stepping to a higher level of leadership at pc3 and epic. May 31, 6:30 PM in the pc3 auditorium. If you know someone who might be interested in that, tell them to come! More info will come from pc3 in the next few weeks!

5-12-09 Tammy Update

Yesterday we finished the last of Tammy's blood work after seeing Dr. Warner, her new infectious disease dr. Within the past few weeks Tammy has had a spinal tap (that was fun!), another MRI (she's had an MRI done from her head down to her hips so far), and lots of blood work (she is now best friends with some of the ladies at the lab - HA!)

The latest round of blood work went to a specialty lab in CA to test for Lymes Disease. Within the next few weeks we should have the results from the tap, MRI and blood work. Prayerfully, we'll be able to determine what is causing Tammy's pain, crippling and other strange symptoms!

God has walked us through a very difficult past 2 years and is still walking very close to us! Many moments we are ready to give up and somehow God shows up in some encouraging / comforting way and empowers us to keep on going!

I'm humbled to be the caregiver to a woman with such tenacity, depth and faith! She's been such an inspiration to me through this whole journey! I'd like to say that I could handle this as graciously as she has but I'm afraid I'd fall very short! She's a beatiful picture of grace and humility! It's an honor to be married to a woman who could have turned this into great bitterness, but yet choose to trust God with all of her being - good days and bad; good health and bad health!

Way to go Tammy! You're the incredible ultra-marathon woman! Thanks for the privilege of being your husband and best friend! I'm cheering you on to your healing! You'll get it! God will heal you!

Eternal Perspective

Spent the afternoon with a multi-millionaire. He didn't act like he was wealthy. Lives modestly. Dresses modestly. He has the right perspective on life - This earth is not our home!

He's investing the money God's given him to advance God's kingdom! Money seems to ruin so many people who end up with lots of it! Great to see that money serves this guy; he doesn't serve the money!

May we truly understand that this earth is not our home! May we be good managers of the resources God has given us - time, talents, money, family, friends, possessions, etc...

God, draw people to Yourself by the way we live for You!

MRI today

Tammy had an MRI today of her hips to rule out any hip degeneration. Don't think that's what's going on but it's always good to rule out everything possible! It was somewhat painful for Tammy but she's doing okay. If the MRI turns up normal, then Lymes continues to be the suspect disease. The spinal tap and blood work can confirm the Lymes but not always. There is no definitive Lymes test. Lymes is tricky to diagnose. Her symptoms keep pointing in that direction.

Not sure if the spinal tap has flared up her pain level but it seems that way. She's had more pain since Friday.

We have one more round of blood work to do next week that will be tested at a specialty lab in CA. We should get some answers to all these tests sometime in the next 2 - 3 weeks or so. I'm sure you know what's it's like to wait on test results! Never as soon as you'd like!

Only God can heal Tammy! He's the Great Physician! We're trusting in Him and Him alone for her healing! Thanks for joining us in prayer over this one!

FAQ

I regularly get asked questions about epic church. Here is a summary of some of those questions and the answers to those questions.

1) When is epic launching?
September 20, 2009

2) Where is epic going to have worship gatherings?
Current plan is to use the Flagler County Realty Association Building on 100. If leaving Target head towards Bunnel and the building is on the left hand side. Very contemporary looking building.

3) What about using the Epic Movie Theatre?
Epic Theatres continue to hold off on starting construction. They have recently pulled their building permits and have about 6 months to start construction or start the building permit process all over again. Unless more plans arise (which of course may happen) they will most likely be open for business in the fall of 2010. We decided early on that we did not want the launch of epic church to be tied to the construction of the theater. Glad we made that call!

4) How can I stay posted on what's happening with epic church?
Visit this blog is one great way! Another way is to attend our vision meetings soon to be announced.

5) How can I help with epic?
There will be many opportunities to help with epic and pc3! Our goal is to have at least 50 people on our launch team when epic officially launches on Sept 20! We'll be holding vision meetings in the near future to cast our epic vision. If God stirs something in your heart at that meeting about helping epic, then join the team! Either way, we want people to step up to higher levels of leadership at pc3 and at epic!

6) Why does Trent like "Braveheart" so much?
I like "Braveheart" because of the blue face paint that William Wallace wears! It's incredible!
"Braveheart" depicts the epic battle of the christian life! Good vs. evil; a spiritual battle of epic proportion; a spiritual battle that rages all around us and claims the lives of many people who do not see the battle for what it is! I could go on for hours, but I'll stop now! I'm getting too passionate! "Freeeeddddddoooooommmmmm!"

7) How can I pray for epic?
Pray that God will go before us! If He does not, all our efforts are useless!
Pray that God brings us the right worship leader!
Pray that God provides the necessary funds!
Pray that God heals Tammy!
Pray that God raises the right launch team!
Pray that the people in our community who need Jesus respond to Him through epic!
Pray that God will do more than we can ask or think!

Thanks for your prayers! They mean so much!

19 weeks!

Today makes 19 weeks and counting till the official launch of epic church!

Wow, 19 weeks feels like 19 hours at this point!

We have lots to do and a short time to do it in! God, go before us and make our path straight!

Tammy's Update 5-3-09

Tammy is recovering from her spinal tap on Friday. She's had a few days of taking it easy and drinking lots of caffeine. Apparently the caffeine helps the body replenish the spinal fluid that was taken. God's creation of the body is an amazing thing!

Now we have an MRI on Tuesday in Jax to rule out a hip disorder. Neither of us think Tammy's issues are solely hip related but it's something else to rule out.

We also have more blood work to do for Lyme testing. There is a specialty Lyme lab in CA that will do more in depth testing for Lymes. Not sure how long it will take to get the results but we figure 2 - 3 weeks or so.

Thanks for your prayers! We're learning just how precious prayer is! Thanks for blessing us with your prayers!

Tammy's Update

Tammy had a successful lumbar puncture today!

The Dr drew several tubes of spinal fluid to test for Lymes disease and possibly other diseases. The procedure took longer to prepare for than to perform. She had to lie down for 2 hours after the procedure to hopefully avoid the killer headaches than can be a side effect.

Tammy did very well! She is now home and resting. She feels some discomfort and her normal level of pain - 6 on a scale of 10.

Thanks for your prayers! She said she felt very peaceful during the whole time!

Continue to pray with us that God reveals what is causing her disabling condition! Not sure how long the results will take but hopefully they will show what is wrong.

Tammy's update

This will be a busy week for Tammy medically. We did more blood work today; have an MRI tomorrow and a lumbar puncture (nifty name for spinal tap) on Friday.

The blood work might help confirm our Lymes suspicion or indicate a few other possible illnesses.

The MRI is suppose to rule out any hip degeneration. We're thinking that will turn up negative and if so, it keeps pointing its finger at Lymes Disease. The more things that are ruled out, the more our Dr suspects Lymes.

The spinal tap is suppose to be able to give us more info regarding Lymes and possibly MS even though the procedure is not conclusive. Our new Dr. said there is a high percentage that we will not get the definitive Lymes diagnosis that we desire and will have to decide if we want to take on the risks of the Lymes treatment without that definitive diagnosis.

The Lymes treatment we are looking at involves anywhere from 4 weeks to 6 months of IV antibiotics based on how her symptoms respond.

Pray with us that:
1) God heals Tammy and that God gets all the glory!
2) That we get a definitive diagnosis!
3) That God continues to give us boldness as this continues to develop our faith!
4) That God gives our Dr wisdom and discernment!

We appreciate your prayers! They are vital!

Exponential New Church Conference '09

Home now after the Exponential Conference '09. Great experience! Got to spend time with 2 other couples and learn lots from people like Erwin McManus, Francis Chan, Tim Keller, etc...

My head is full to overflowing with information that will take me a month or more to unpack!

It was so incredibly cool to be around thousands of other people from around the world who are passionate about advancing the kingdom of God through church planting!

We are part of this epic mission that God has to save the world! God desires that every person be given the opportunity to have eternal life! We have lots of work to do! There are many people around us who need Jesus.

Erwin McManus said something like this (my paraphrase) "Jesus did the most heroic act of dying for humanity so we could do the most heroic act of living before humanity!"

Time to live!

epic update

Tammy and I and 2 other couples are headed to the Exponential Church Planter's Conference in Orlando starting tomorrow. Pray about the following for us!

1) That we'll learn lots during our time there!
2) That we'll make great connections while there!
3) That God will continue to help us find the right worship leader to join our team!
4) That God will help us raise the necessary funds to get epic off the ground and on a steady foundation!

Tammy's medical update

Had an appointment with a new Dr today in Daytona - Dr. Warner an infectious disease Dr. He's trying to help us rule out Lyme's disease as the cause of Tammy's symptoms.

We prayed for a great interaction with the Dr and then for direction. We got both! Dr. Warner was very helpful and listened well to our story! He even read through the 3" binder of medical info we brought with us logging our 2 year journey. Very few Drs have ever read through our collection of reports.

The plan is for us to get a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) of which we're not looking forward to - especially Tammy. He also wants us to do more blood work and then to get an MRI of Tammy's hips to rule out some hip degeneration disorder. The results of all that will help us determine if IV antibiotics will be our next treatment approach.

Doing nothing can lead to more complications and Tammy's condition getting worse. Doing the lumbar puncture and IV antibiotics have their own set of unpleasant complications.

Either way God is still our Great Physician and is in complete control! We know our healing only comes from Him! He will heal Tammy when He's ready and how He chooses! Until then, we continue to follow the path He places before us!

Thanks for your prayers! We need them more than you'll know!

Dramatic twist ~ Easter

God's epic story took a dramatic turn over 2,000 years ago.

Jesus, the true Hero of the story, courageously charged the darkness to rescue those held captive by the enemy. Jesus knew the price for winning the battle against evil ~ He would have to die! But not only die ~ He would have to watch His Father turn His back and leave Him to die alone with the sin of the world on His shoulders. On top of that He would have to defeat the powers of death by returning to life.

Against the odds, on that first Easter morning, Jesus won the battle! He not only shouldered the sin of the world alone, He rose from the grave ultimately defeating death and the power of sin!

By placing our faith in Him, we are restored to our rightful place among God's family! What a concept! You and I have the opportunity to be joint-heirs with Jesus Christ! Part of God's royal family ~ with rights and privileges that only come to God's children!

Hard to believe and yet true all the same!

Happy Easter!

Can You Drink The Cup?

I've been reading a challenging book lately, "Can You Drink The Cup?" by Henri Nouwen.

Wow, what a challenging book about the depths of life!

Chapter 1 says: "Just living life is not enough. We must know what we are living. A life that is not reflected upon isn't worth living. ... Reflection is essential for growth, development, and change."

How are you doing at reflecting over your life?

Dig deeper into your life and discover the life God designed you to live!

epic adventures

Moving forward with plans for planting epic church in September of 2009! The count down has begun! I'm honored and humbled to be part of the epic movement Jesus started over 2,000 years ago!

What an honor to help restore people to a right relationship with the Creator of the universe! I still can't believe God has invited me to join the adventure! I don't want to miss a moment of this!
